Spring Sewing Plans…

Happy Good Friday everyone!

How are we all?

I’m getting used to having a job and having so much to do outside of it – I just need to get into a routine with it all. On that note I have been doing something I don’t do very often… planning. I am definitely one to just launch in and hope it works, in pretty much everything I do but while I was tidying my sewing space last weekend I thought I’d actually go through my patterns and fabrics and make some plans!

I definitely struggle with not knowing what to sew next, what to make with the amazing fabric I have just bought or what pattern goes with what fabric – so I just find myself spending hours dawdling and getting distracted a lot instead of actually sewing. I will go in with a rough idea but then get distracted by another fabric or pattern and change my mind and then sit there umming and ahhing (and doing a lot of talking to myself) instead of just getting on with it… do any of you suffer from this affliction?

So, in order to combat this it was time to get organised… I started with a list…

And then I decided on the patterns I most wanted to make and found the right fabrics for it… instead of the other way round which I think leads to more trouble for me!

Suit
The first thing I already knew I wanted to make was a suit using Simple Sew’s Jackie O Jacket and Wiggle Skirt in this gorgeous spotty lacey cream wool mix from Abakhan
MintSpotsDress
I got 10m of this great mint polka dot soft cotton from a car boot and can’t wait to make Style Variations 1318 (Version 1 – the one shown in floral) dress with it – perfect for spring and summer.
LBDHuston
This relaxed stretch “Angelica Huston” dress from The Little Black Dress Book is perfect for my floral knit from Rolls & Rems bargain bin!

There are loads of patterns I want to make in The Great British Sewing Bee Book: Fashion with Fabric so here are my choices for those…

SSPCapri Trousers
The Capri Trousers in this floral denim from Abakhan
GBSB Relaxed Trousers
The Casual Trousers in this ‘Hearts’ Jersey – I want something comfy to wear at home, dog walking etc
GBSB Lace Skirt
I found this perfect turquoise lace at a jumble sale in Liverpool for £2 – so perfect for the Lace Skirt (Deborah would be so proud!)

And I have just got the perfect black and white striped stretchy knit fabric for the drapey dress too.

OK now some decisions that I need your help with…

Stripey Knit decisions
Which pattern do I choose for this brilliant striped wool? It drapes really nicely so the might be right for the Simplicity 8386 but also keeps great shape and might be better shown off in the figure hugging Simple Sew Bella dress…

PsychedelicShift
Which psychedelic print is better suited to the Simplicity 7683 classic 60s shift dress? Or do I go for both?!

 Please help me decide!

Oh and on the subject of those amazing psychedelic print fabrics – I was given them – in a massive bundle by an incredible fanimal (my band’s fan group)… I’m still in shock from the incredible generosity of this lovely person who sent me not one but two packages of patterns and fabrics… WOW! THANKYOUUUUU!!!

Present2
I love all these patterns and they are my size!! 🙂

In other (amazing) news – I have been invited to join the fabulous Minerva Crafts Blogger Network aMinerva-Crafts-Network-Logond I couldn’t be happier! Their bloggers are some of the best in the sewing and craft world and it really is an honour to join them all. You can read my posts on the 3rd Wednesday of every month and I have already chosen my first 3 kits to blog about – I can’t wait for you to see them!! 🙂

OK now I must go off and sew – I have the next two days off and need to crack on before I wear ONLY handmade items for the whole of Me-Made-May which I’m really excited to take part in too! Also lots to get on with for the Vintage Pledge – which some of these patterns are perfect for and all of which are fitting into my core style with Wardrobe Architect Challenge – phew!

So much love and HAPPY EASTER – Eat lots of chocolate!!

  1. Blimey, you’ve been properly bitten by the bug! I am so super impressed by all of this, I’d love to make my own things but I just don’t have the patience. The last time I made anything was about 13 years ago and I just whipped it up without a pattern for a wedding and guess what fell off as I got out of the car after the drive home? Yes, the whole skirt.
