PROJECT BEDROOM!

So I did what I said I would – I sorted the bedroom! YEY!
I got straight to it while Stephen was away on a stag do and spent the whole weekend making it just right for his return.
I definitely have the spring cleaning bug at the moment, in fact I just finished the scrubbing every inch of the kitchen and so moving the bedroom around to create space was basically EXTREME SPRING CLEANING… tis the season for it!

As I explained before – we just had builders in and were left with freshly painted walls and all our stuff out or on the bed in the middle of the room so it was the perfect time to do a mini makeover.

Where the bed started…
Just an idea of the lack of space and size of furniture

The biggest problem was the bulky chest of drawers- we have 2 matching ones and they are biiig (well we have a lot of clothes) and they take up half the room. Then we each have two bars for hanging clothes (like a wardrobe, with the doors, or sides!) each in the alcoves either side of the chimney breast but we decided if we want room then it’s time for SACRIFICE! We both did a massive clear out of clothes and cleared enough to only use the top bar and luckily the chests fit snugly (tightly on my side) in the alcoves which makes so much sense and I can’t believe we didn’t do this before – durrrrr!

My first idea for the bed placing… bad idea!

Then I tried every way to have the bed until it went to the far corner behind the door and for the first time we could easily walk around our room, maybe even dance… well we can see the floor and that’s pretty exciting.

Can you see the floor?!

We’re still working on were to put the rest of the furniture – blanket chest and other drawers as they don’t work in there at all anymore but I am happy to get rid of them, including the stuff in there and reclaim even more space. Also we both love the idea of putting up shelves/ some form of storage on the other side of the room as we still have the ongoing lack of storage space and that could make a lot of sense for us both. I have my heart set on crates…

Stephen liked the extra space too and when he got back when finished off the room by adding more pictures to the gallery wall (that I picked up at the tip that morning!)

The first thing I want to change is that light on the right!

I really wanted to extend the headboard of our bed but we’ve decided instead to look out for a new bed – preferably vintage and cheap but most importantly smaller than the current one! We also have the chairs ready to go as bedside tables but they won’t fit at the moment and maybe I can make a headboard anyway!

LOVE!

What else?  I have gone garden mad but we all knew that was coming. My wonderful mum has given me loads of big beautiful pots as they have changed their garden into a walled bed (it looks great and is a perfect use of a small space- I’ll do a blog about it soon!) so now I have been getting excited about growing fruit and veg this year and definitely a herb garden. I also think I finally have passion for cooking (mainly due to falling in love with Rachel Khoo’s  new TV programme “Little Paris Kitchen”) – I hope it lasts as then I can cook my home grown food and successfully starting living on a shoestring but I warn you… I’m a ‘phases’ kinda girl!

I will definitely come back with a blog about what I plan on growing very soon – I’m just trying not to go too mad and get it all wrong!

Love and maybe lettuces, if the slugs don’t get there first!

  1. Nice Gabby! My husband and I are getting ready to move from a teeny space into a less teeny space so it’s nice to see some options for what to do with all our clothes!

  2. I WANT A HERB GARDEN!! I’m not allowed to grow them on the balcony, apparently the pots out there are for “flowers”; I’ve just got three pots in the kitchen. Meh. You should totally check out my friend Nikki’s blog (who I was telling you about on Sunday), you’ll LOVE her shoestringing! She’s at http://www.clickclackgorilla.com

  3. Mwah, this blog entry makes me so happy.. I’m not the only one going mad about the garden time thats coming.. 😀
I already bought loads and loads of seeds to grow radishs, carrots, a few herbs, salad and stuff.. I’m so excited.. <3 Going to start today, as the weather is incredibly beautiful!
And oh my god, I see the little bird I’ve sewn for you on the gallery wall.. You don’t know how much that means to me!
I should really make a spring clean up too, as my room is as small as yours, and I own a lot of stuff (esp. for crafts), laying in every corner. And my clothes are all hanging on my chair (or laying on the ground, because the chair is too full, and they’re falling down again and again..)
Keep on making this good stuff! I love your enthusiasm. :3
