Do you follow instructions?

I realised today, about 25 years too late, that I really really have to follow instructions and stop presuming that ‘oh that bit can’t be that important’ I have done on everything I have made and always got to the end and realised ‘yes it was very important, that’s why it was there and you’re going to have to go back unpick and redo that bit.’And that is why my first attempt at knitting in the round looks like this:

That massive twist is NOT meant to be there!!

Because I didn’t follow the instructions… and when I was told to ‘Check the knitting is around the right way the whole way around before joining the two sides together’ I just didn’t- I carried on regardless and got a bit carried away.

Naughty naughty Gabby!!

To be honest- I have been like this since school- ask all my teachers, family – I was never one to stick to the rules BUT today I have decided this is to change.

I, GABRIELLE HOPE YOUNG, PROMISE TO FOLLOW ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS ON EVERYTHING I MAKE (until I really don’t need them anymore)

I will also make this piece of knitting into a twisted Snood and pretend it was always meant to be that way!! 😉

Do you follow all the instructions or skip certain seemingly ‘less important’ bits?!

Right, off on a dog walk then it’s a long overdue day of sewing for me – I’m making my sister a flowy maxi dress for a wedding in the Maldives… as you do!! It looks pretty tricky so wish me luck!

Take care and drink lots of water! 😉

Hello I’m Gabby! When I’m not singing with my band 'Gabby Young' I’m mainly sewing, dreaming about fabrics, patterns or knitting and vlogging or blogging about it all! Come join me! Xox Gabby

  1. A twisted snood is still on my to-knit list, so you beat me to that 😉

Winging it is generally the way to go for me with recipes, but with knitting patterns I’m quite a good girl. I even knit a swatch…sometimes.

Good luck with the maxi dress! You’ve inspired me to do more sewing again: I picked up the Tilly and the Buttons book.

    1. Oh wow I’m so happy to hear I’ve inspired more sewing – enjoy the book! And well done for sticking to instructions – I am trying to do the same with this dress but my sister only went and chose the most confusing pattern ever and it’s by Burda so awful instructions!! Ahhhh! Take care Ama! Xox
