Sew N Tell February – The Blog to go with the Vlog!

Howdy Partners in Craft Crime!

Woh, February goes by WAY too quickly – I honestly feel like we hopped straight from Jan to March, which is my birthday month so I’m OK with that!! But yeah there wasn’t a lot of time for sewing – which for me means I made *only* 5 things this month! 😉 I really like the idea of doing a blog alongside my Sew N Tell vlogs and have so far managed one about a year ago so here I am trying it again! It’s a nice chance to get some piccies whilst I’m all dressed up with nowhere to go after my vlog filming. Apparently 2018 is the year I embrace lipstick – I am LOVING the stuff!!

Anyway here is the vlog to go with this blog…

I’m happy with all my makes – sure I’m not totally in love with them and there were definite trials and tribulations along the way but here are the finished ones – I haven’t totally finished the Cinnamon trousers so they will appear in full later!

1) Stripey Southbank Sweater

Pattern:
Southbank Sweater – Nina Lee Patterns
Fabric:
Navy stripe ponte roma – big stripes from Claire Sews, little ones from Ebay
How long it took to sew:
Well I started the dress in December – ran out of fabric, got the new stuff in Feb then made it up an hour or so before deciding to cut the bottom off and making it into the cropped sweater version! I reckon it should take a couple of hours from start to finish though.

Any tips / tricks / details:

I love this pattern and will make a dress version soon but probably without the pockets, as I like to whizz it up on the overlocker and I think the pockets need to be added on the sewing machine to make sure they sit in the right place. It also depends on the fabric as they look great on some. I definitely want to make more of the cropped sweater!

2) Monochrome Grid Cassiopee Dress

Pattern:
Cassiopee Dress – I Am Patterns
Fabric:
Black and white grid viscose from Hackney Market
How long it took to sew:
Megan and I took 2 days with lots of tea and food and chat inbetween (here’s the vlog t prove it!) but I reckon it could be sewn up in 1.5hrs

Any tips / tricks / details:

I think I learnt that I prefer more fitted things on me which is a shame as I love this pattern and all the versions I’ve seen! I will definitely get some wear out of it with a belt though! 🙂

3) Burgundy Velvet Lena Wrap Dress

Pattern:
Lena Wrap Dress – Simple Sew Patterns
Fabric:
Burgundy Stretch Velvet from FC Fabrics
How long it took to sew:
About 3hrs

Any tips / tricks / details:

I didn’t love this when I first tried it on but with my hair and makeup done (and not over my PJ bottoms) I have done a 180* and can’t wait for an occasion to wear this swishy party dress to! The fabric is dreamy too! 🙂

4) Contrast Coco Top

Pattern:
Coco Top – Tilly and the Buttons
Fabric:
Both stripey french terrys from Abakhan‘s remnants bin in Liverpool
How long it took to sew:
Under an hour! 🙂

Any tips / tricks / details:

Love love LOVE! I want to make so many contrast Coco’s – they sew up like a dream!

NB, All the stretch items were whizzed up on the overlocker and finished on the Pfaff Coverlock 3.0 Coverstitch.

Sew that’s how for now! (can’t remember where that quotes from but hope you got it!)

Lots of love and snowballs!

  1. When you twirled on the vlog in your casiope I thought oo that’s really nice and wondered what the pattern was it looks so different. I’ve just made it and it’s straight to the charity shop it drowns me. In cord it is sadly too thick to belt. I really enjoyed the making vlog.

  2. It’s from the kids TV show – How 2! I loved it!
